Get it
checked! Unless you live in rented accommodation, where the
landlord must provide you with a gas safety certificate
annually, there’s no law to demand gas appliances are
checked, but CORGI recommends an annual inspection, or
preferably service, by a CORGI-registered professional.
CORGI also strongly recommends the use of a Carbon Monoxide
alarm. This is a device similar in appearance to a smoke
alarm which detects rising levels of CO in the room and will
sound the alarm if the concentration approaches a dangerous
level. Remember though, you will still need to get your
appliances regularly serviced. When you buy a CO alarm, make
sure it meets current British and European safety standards,
with the EN symbol clearly visible. The Honeywell Analytics
SF450 meets every current standard and costs just over £36.
